The residents association is continuing to work with Regency Living to bring about improvements on site and we should start to see problems with street lighting and signage being addressed in the coming months. There’s also a proposal to install new gates to improve security which we fully support.

Hundreds of sites up and down the country with a similar age demographic to ours already have gates and value them in terms of improving safety. However, we’ve been left behind because previous park owners failed to fulfil promises. The good news is, Regency has agreed to spend over £50,000 to install gates and enhance CCTV at Dunton and we’d be silly to throw that opportunity away.

Whilst the vast majority of people we’ve bumped into are over-the-moon with the proposals, it’s inevitable some people will have concerns about how gates will affect them and their visitors so we thought we’d explain how these things work.

How will residents get in/out? - we’ll all have a couple of free fobs (you can buy more if you like). As we approach the gates coming on to the site we just hold the fob near the reader and the gate will open. As for leaving the site, the gates will open automatically as you approach them.

How will other visitors get in/out? - they will drive up to the gates, wind down their window and press the button that corresponds with your road name and number. As soon as they do that, your phone will ring and if you’re happy you can just buzz them in. It can be set up to ring landlines, mobiles or both. Once again, leaving the site is easy. Just drive up to the gate and it automatically opens.

What happens if there’s a power cut? - a backup system will automatically open the gates when power fails and they will remain open until power is restored.

What happens when a vehicle is waiting at the gate but no-one is answering? - The system can be set up to try you on your home phone and if there’s no reply, call your (or someone else’s mobile). There will also be an option for the driver to buzz the office.

How will emergency vehicles get in? - there is already a well-established override system to automatically open any gate for emergency vehicles.

Rest assured, gates have been used on sites like ours for decades. In fact, we have spoken to other sites to see if there are any issues and they’ve all said they don’t have problems.

The committee has discussed the matter and agreed we need to support these improved safety measures. However, if you still have concerns or questions, pop us a note in our black letterbox on the clubhouse wall (marked Residents Association) or email [email protected]
